Talking to someone with limited English

Sharing a conversation helps us to make friendships and understand each other but this can be more difficult if you don't speak the same language. If you are speaking to someone who is learning English here are some simple things you can do to break down the language barrier and help them to understand the conversation. The first page is an easy to read poster and the second page gives a little more information on how you can improve your communication skills and help others at the same time.

These resources have been created by participants at Empowering Enterprise partner Open Doors International Language School in Plymouth. Many of their students have come to the UK as refugees and are learning English as well as developing their employability skills.
